About:
Eikehof Wine Estate is nestled in the shade of lush green old oak trees alongside the R45, their family owned Winery is situated to the west of the Franschhoek Village in the vicinity of La Motte. This hidden gem has belonged to the Malherbe family since 1903. Today, 117 years later, Francois Malherbe is the 4th generation of winemakers to make wines in the very cellar that his great-grandfather did. The farm takes its name, Eikehof, from the wonderful Old Oaks which are characteristic of the farm and the Cape Winelands Area.
Wine:
Eikehof has 6 varietals which include a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards stretch over a 23 hectare piece of land and peach orchards can also be found on the farm. The Eikehof wines are from the Franschhoek origin designation. The Eikehof wines are made from the finest grapes. This farm is renowned for having the oldest block of Semillon bush vines in South Africa dating back to 1902. The House of GM&AHRENS label has built up a cult following of bubbly friends who wait with bated breath for every new vintage release at our annual Spring Day Bubbly Breakfast, preferring to get their sparkle fix fresh, and first-hand from the cellar.
Our avid followers include the likes of super-stylish top SA actor, model, and business entrepreneur, Maps Maponyane, as well as world-renowned pizzazzishly-stylish fashion designer, Gert-Johan Coetzee, to name but two.
Vintage Cap Classique:
Vintage Cap Classique, as GM&AHRENS is classified, is fairly rare in SA as it requires that only the best grapes from an excellent vintage are selected and aged for a minimum of three years. In a bad year no-one in Champagne makes vintage bubbly and we would certainly follow suit if faced with a poor vintage. Fortunately, the Cape climes have bestowed enough sunshine on our vines, always ensuring ample access to excellent vintage-quality produce.
